Project description

The U.S. DOT and the White House have marked the importance for commitments to reduce the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in 50% by 2030 in the recently announced “Carbon Reduction Program”, as the transportation sector is the largest generator of GHG emissions of about 27% in U.S. The current decarbonization pathways in transportation are still in elementary stage, focusing on low carbon cement chemistries. Building upon the PI's previous work to new class of carbon sequestration- efficient engineered concrete, targeting zero or negative net GHG emissions in infrastructure, the objective of the project is to translate/scale up the concept of carbon neutral concrete into innovative products for pavements to nullify CO2 emissions in the transportation sector. Through transformative, use-inspired research this project will drive to the construction of engineered concrete pavements that serve as carbon sink in TI with high CO2 sequestration capacity.
