Project description

This project has consisted of developing draft specifications & mixture designs for SCC used in the construction of drilled shafts for the B.B. Comer Bridge replacement over the Tennessee River. The project was let in multiple phases, with construction in each phase being observed & documented by researchers, in addition to conducting numerous tests to evaluate the quality of the concrete. Some of the tests conducted including compressive strength & permeability testing of cores extracted from experimental casings made from SCC and conventional concrete (separately); CSL testing on all permanent shafts; gamma-gamma testing on select shafts; internal temperature testing from thermal sensors embedded in shafts during placement.
