Project description

The proposed research will document the availability and the use of concrete nondestructive testing (NDT) tools by transportation agencies; study the critical concrete material properties and suitable acceptance criteria for performance-based concrete material specifications; understand the underlying physics and sensitivity of candidate NDT tools; and validate the most promising NDT tools. The objectives of the proposed research are to: (1) Document available concrete NDT tools and their use by transportation agencies; (2) Establish critical concrete material properties and suitable acceptance criteria for performance-based concrete material specifications; (3) Understand the underlying physics, reliability, and sensitivity of candidate NDT tools; and (4) Validate the most promising NDT tools to demonstrate overall effectiveness.
