About the research
The concrete industry has established guidance, specifications, equipment, and knowledge regarding recreational trails at some local levels. However, the industry has yet to make significant impact on the national level. A Guide to Concrete Trails and Paths would provide design and construction information to specifiers. Such guidance would be useful for construction of all types of paved recreational trails, including those for biking, running, walking, and for golf courses.
The Trails and Paths Guide will be written by the National CP Tech Center and will employ a Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) to direct the content. The Trails and Paths Guide will make use of sections of FHWA and AASHTO documents on trails and bicycle facilities. The project team will collect recent literature and information from appropriate subject experts regarding the content for the guide. Drawing from these resources, the team will draft new content for the guide, then edit for conciseness, cohesion, etc. The style and format will be consistent with the 2012 Guide to Concrete Overlays of Asphalt Parking Lots, which has been found to be user-friendly and practical. The size of the guide will be approximately 40 pages (including appendix).
