Training Slides from Iowa's Local Quarterly Lunch Forum Series

Since 2006—with support from the Iowa Concrete Paving Association (ICPA) and the Iowa Department of Transportation—the National Concrete Pavement Technology Center (CP Tech Center) has been delivering informal lunch forum continuing education to pavement engineers in now ten locations across Iowa every fall, winter, and spring.

Over the years, this free CP Tech Center training has provided more than 6,000 total attendees with state-of-the-industry insights from around the country and throughout Iowa on more than 40 technical topics related to the design, construction, and preservation of concrete pavements.

Each season’s forum topic is chosen by surveying the interests of previous attendees along with input from concrete industry experts. Since 2016, CP Tech Center Technology Transfer Engineer and Snyder & Associates’ Senior Engineer, Jerod Gross, PE, LEED® AP, has led the CP Tech Center’s ongoing continuing education lunch forum series.

Lunch forum training for winter 2019-2020 will discuss lessons learned and success stories from case studies, as well as how proper design and construction practices can produce long life pavements. This training will highlight key advances in concrete pavement technologies having particular potential to strengthen Iowa’s road system by increasing the durability, and therefore lifespan, of its pavement infrastructure.

Guides/Manuals

Real-life concrete pavement systems frequently throw at early practitioners a level of complexity beyond what standard textbook scenarios describe. Students and early practitioners might need help in understanding key issues in the design, construction, and maintenance of concrete pavements.

We have put together a curated list of CP Tech Center publications, as well as links to other concrete organizations’ educational repositories, to provide early practitioners with easy access to the fundamental knowledge necessary to make optimal pavement-related decisions. Even experienced concrete practitioners can benefit from this resource list covering not only tried-and-true best practice for concrete applications but also more recent research and technological innovations.

For links to additional resources from CP Tech’s extensive library, see the Publications section.
